Prayer Focus

October 2023

“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord. “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.

Jeremiah 29:11

Last week we came together to say ”thank you” and “farewell” to Jim, our minister, on his retirement and to Heather, our family worker as she moves on to pastures new with Scripture Union.

Pray for Jim and Jean as they prepare to pack up and move forward into this new chapter of their lives. We give thanks for their faithfulness and trust in you, their friendship and devoted service.

Pray for Heather as she takes on the role of Regional Worker for West Edinburgh, Currie and Balerno. We give thanks for the many gifts and blessings that she has encouraging and inspiring young people in their walks of faith.

As we “walk together” with Colinton through this time of change we pray for our church, that your Holy Spirit will refine and renew us into the church your will would have us be. Our trust and hope is in you.

Pray for our church leaders, Kirk Sessions and congregations.

Gordon Kennedy our interim minister as he helps and guides us through this process.

The facilitation groups of Juniper Green and Colinton in their discussions

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be be with you; he will never leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Deuteronomy 31:8

Pray for all those who are finding life difficult at the moment. Lord guide and comfort them with your love and give them strength for today and hope for tomorrow.

We pray for our troubled world and all those lost or in need.

Lord be their comforter, healer and protector.

Be their strength, shield and provision,

Be their security, safety and close companion.

God in your mercy hear our prayer.

We pray for the many thousands affected by the devastating earthquake in Morocco and the floods in Libya after the catastrophic collapse of the dam in Derma.

Lord be close to the broken hearted and comfort all those who mourn.

We remember Ukraine, Syria and other war torn countries; many displaced, anxious, lonely and depressed.

The hungry and poor. Pray for this year’s harvest so families have enough food and income to support themselves.

Give thanks and pray for the Red Cross, Christian Aid and Tearfund amongst other charities bringing relief and support; meeting people’s basic needs and offering “seeds of hope”, supplying essential and practical items and psychological support.

Give thanks for the commitment, prayer and compassion of local churches bringing transformation across the world.
